How old is the sibling and are they living at home?
My mom would check up on us. She always swore that her kids wouldn't be Columbine murderers and she wouldn't know about it. (her words, not mine)

Late 20s/early 30s for the email. High school for the phone calls.

How would you feel if you found out your mother had been breaking into a siblings email? It went on for years and she was only caught because sibling walked in and saw her doing it.
In nearly all of my parent/sibling issues I have a MYOB approach but this one feels like she would do it to me if she could. I don't think she ever had access to my passwords but I did change them immediately when I found out. My mom feels no remorse and believes she was justified because she felt like sibling didn't share enough information with her.
FWIW, she recorded our phone conversations in high school but we (siblings and myself) only found out after one sibling caught her. She also justified this as necessary because one sibling was using drugs.
