I got promoted to a level where I was given my own office.

I had an office, now I have a cube. They are constructing mini cubes, that are very open as we speak. I hate open concept offices, but you can't really fight it here. In our sister office, only VPs and above get an office with a door, resulting in a lot of irritated managers and directors. We also stay because of the salary.

Not only in IT, many finance companies have this standard as well. In fact, often the highest paid people at these places not only have no office, but have no cube either (traders who sit on a trading desk).
