My (Mississippi) grandmother always called me her grandbaby, even when I was 15. I hated it, now I just miss her...

It could be worse. A reality TV grandma calls hers "glambaby."

Do you mean your MIL doesn't refer to him by his name?

"Hey, grandbaby, let's go to the playground". Is that what you mean?

Yup, you are being petty. Keep it in perspective. If your MIL is loving, warm, happy, engaged, helpful and involved - without being a complete witch like some of these MILs, be grateful, seriously.

1. West Virginia is not the south.
2. Your child is her grand baby.

This is not a big deal. As he gets older and more verbal she will start using his real name. As long as she doesn't refer to him as her baby, you're fine.

Petty, I know. This is just a vent. My MIL constantly calls our DS grand baby and it drives my crazy. It seems like it might be a cultural thing? She is originally from West Virginia so maybe it is a southern thing? Can someone please explain this?
