My SG Dr didn't recommend defrosting, biopsying for pgs, and refreezing. I was basically told I couldn't test my two frosties bec. They weren't biopsied before freezing. Not worth the risk of losing them, but since you have 9 you have a better chance of some making it.

But people DO already choose for other traits. You wouldn't knowingly implant an embryo with a trisomy or a monosomy. So selection is already happening.

Slippery unethical slope

Agree. Gender selection shouldn't exist.

OP here. I understand that you are looking at this from your own angle, but things are different for us. If we use these embryos at all (it's not a given), we'd use only one out of nine. Why shouldn't we be allowed to decide which one, out of the healthy ones, we choose, assuming there are several? One of them will get chosen based on certain conditions, it's not a random pick. So why shouldn't we be allowed to pick one based on conditions that are important to us?

Actually, my understanding is that SGF does do this, in certain situations. It has to be approved by their ethics board. But I wouldn't think that this particular request would even get that far.

Yes. Many people will 'batch' embryos from several cycles for testing, since you pay a flat fee whether it is just one or up to 8 embryos..

I'd like to think no clinics do this.

We've done our first IVF at SG and were successful on the first try. We also ended up with a bunch of embryos in storage. This will be our second child, and we MAY want to try for a third. However, because we have nine embryos in storage, we'd like to do PGS on all and pick the gender, in addition to everything else. I know SG won't do that, so we'll probably have to go to another clinic. Has anyone been in this situation, and which clinic did you find to be amenable?
