Is the DCI current space large enough to hold HS kids or will they need another space?

OK but still not equitable. Charters have to use the per pupil facilities $ for renovations and repairs whereas DCPS renovations come from the City's Capital budget, not the education budget.

I read in the Post that the under those leases, renovation spending is credited as rent.

But they don't get the equity obviously. It is a mess.

Crediting renovations as rent is a completely typical real-estate arrangement, and is especially reasonable on a long-term lease where the tenant has the use of improvements until their value has mostly or entirely depreciated.

Are there any other vacant buildings DCI can shoot for? DCPS should give them Coolidge and merge those students with Roosevelt.

I predict Bowser guts the sovereignty and functionality of charters going forward. This is why the city has become a short-term plan for me. Once my youngest finishes pre-k, off to the burbs we go.

The Focus lawsuit is really important here. And if they go too far against the independence of charters Congress will have to get involved. But yes, things are not trending in a good direction from my point of view.

Every mayor since Fenty back pedaled on support for charters once they left the Council and became head of DCPS. Of course it manifested in different ways given the times and issue faced. Not surprised Bowser too is falling into line.

Challenges finding space and funding renovations of them are the biggest thing holding charters back. My charter kids will never be in a 'normal' school. They don't know anything else but it makes me sad and angry.

You're not supposed to start a thread with only a link.

Fuckin' Muriel stood on my front porch last summer and pledged she would make sure the funding came through.
