95% of the time, yes, we take down the umbrella before a storm. That other 5% is when we don't check the weather before leaving and a storm pops up while we're out. Luckily, we're all great about closing the umbrella and never leaving it open.

Yes my housekeeper always does this, and they put away the cushions on the patio furniture as well.

You don't need to remove it, but definitely close it. I've seen them get blown onto the roof in storms.

I’ve had the lighter version poles and closed or not a good wind will blow the table over I have 1 with a light pole I have 1 with a wooden pole and I have one from the mid 70s to early 80s that is heavy very durable love the crank that tilts it from side to side that hides away and tucks it’s self inside the pole it self verses the push button also the crank that opens it is built to last after so many of my light weight umbrellas being blown away and broken it’s nice to have the older version they just don’t make things that last like they use to my advice push the button detach your Brellea it’s simple and will definitely save you the hassle of buying a new one or having to fix a broken expansion rod they always seem to break right at the rivet

Ok thanks that's what I was wondering if it's necessary to completely remove it from the table. I'll just leave it be (closed) when it "regular" storms then!

As long as it's closed, I think it's okay to have the umbrella upright in the table, unless the storm is expected to bring very strong winds.

Ours is wood so we don't worry about lightning but do worry about wind. We simply put it down for regular storms. For something hurricane like it goes in the garage.

It's a massive wind hazard. If its shorter than your house, there is no worry. If its taller than your house, than I want to see a photo Mrs Baggins

So that it won't get struck by lightening? I remember my dad doing this when I was younger but seems like such a pain now...
