I started going to the 9:30 club at about that age (and it was in a less safe area at that time, too). Like PPs have said, it's a well-run, well-respected club with a good amount of oversight. If you're driving her there and picking her up it's a no-brainer, let her go.

Almost all 9:30 Club shows are all ages and have been for years. I would feel fine about a 16yo going, especially if they have a ride. The 9:30 Club is the most well-run club I've ever been to. They have no tolerance for out of control guests and are vigilant about underage drinking and drugs. It's a safe place.

He'll be fine. They'll put a black X on his hand so he can't be served.

What is "soft rock", and why is it safer for 16-year-olds than the alternatives?

I would not let them go without a trusted adult ride, though.

Agree it depends on the teenager and on her friend.
I would drive and would be fine with it.

My DD went to 9:30 Club many, many times in high school - starting at about 15-16 years old. In the beginning I would drive the kids and then they started getting there on their own and, depending on the ending time, I would pick-up or they would get home by Metro, etc. She usually went with a pretty group of friends so I never worried.

9:30 Club is fine for teenagers. They do serve alcohol for 21+, but they are very responsible and careful about that with the younger crowd. I wouldn't worry - your DD will be fine, especially if the band is soft rock.

9:30 has had some all ages shows for years. We know some of the folks that work there and have taken our kids to shows many times. The venue is well run and careful about alcohol sales, IMO. If it were my kid, and she had been there before, I would be okay with it.

With you driving I'd be fine with it.

Places I would veto would include Sonar in Baltimore, other clubs. 9:30 I'm a little more comfortable with.

I've been to the 9:30 with both my 10 and 14 year old boys. I'd have no problem with the 14 year old going without me now that he has been there and is comfortable with the environment. I would think that a 16 year old would be fine. Though, of course, it depends on the child.

Young children go to the 9:30 club?

Apparently the 9:30 Club now allows teenagers. Would you allow your 16 yr old DD to go with a girlfriend? I went to a concert at that age but the 9:30 Club serves liquor to the 21+ crowd, so some people could be drunk. I'm not worried about her drinking and I'll probably drive her. The band is soft rock. Thoughts?
