What is that supposed to mean? Are you southern or something?

I love my MIL, but that's it. I ignore, like the other PP, my FIL (they're divorced), BIL & SIL and their spouses. Works great for my sanity.

Yes. Love them. Actually spent all day with MIL on Saturday while DH was with FIL. Have a great friendship with my SIL as well

I get along with mine! My mom can be a pain at times though.

I think things often go in cycles where you are closer to certain people at certain times. I was very close with my mom awhile back, but not so much now. Much closer with my ILs. Also not as close with my sibling as I was, but am closer with certain cousins. I think things change as folks get older and evolve...

I think this is a self selecting board for in-law trouble.

My ILs live in the Midwest and we get along great! Of course we live 14.5hrs away so maybe it would be different if we were there in the thick of the relatives. Recently I took my MIL with me and my 4yo twins on a 12hr road trip to see my hubby while he was at training for a month. She was very helpful and a good sport for all the places I was dragging her .

Yes. They're very loving and caring and engaging. Sometimes they drive me crazy, but isn't that what family is for?

We get along fine. They irritate me sometimes, but then so do my parents and I love them dearly.

I get along with mine too. We went on vacation together this winter. I wouldn't do it all the time but it was nice. My husband gets along with my parents and is invited and participates in their birthday/holiday stuff woh their friends (and me of course). I don't think that's super common but it does exist. If you think about it a ltnof it is the luck of the draw. You think that if you like your spouse it would be easy to be friends with the people who raised them but that's not often the case as many children are very muh not like their parents.

Maybe it is because all of my husband's family hails from the midwest. Sorry I'm not being smug here I just see so many people hate their mil or their sil or what have you. I can't relate! I get along with my brother's wife and her family too. I'm wondering if I just really lucked out or if what I experience is the norm?

My MIL is a wonderful lady who made me feel loved and welcome. She made me feel like her son made a wonderful choice and was grateful he found me. Who knows maybe they all talk behind my back.
