It works with frozen sausages and is often included in the instructions on the packet.

It would be a travesty to cook fresh sausages this way though. grill or fry

Whatever gets them cooked is good. Parboiling is often recommended before browning. But I've done it both ways. What's important is not to use so much heat that they burn on the outside before they cook on the inside.

Water? Really? I've never heard of cooking sausages with water.

I would always err on the side of over cooking rather than undercooking with a sausage for food safety reasons.

Ok I get those big pork Italian sweet and spicy ones from Whole Foods. I put them in a pan with some water and heat them up, covered. But I think this might not be the way to do it?

Can someone tell me: water or no water, covered or no cover, temp (medium?) and how long each side?
