I get home at 5:45 and DH around 7. This is normal in our circles. I don't know any DHd that get at 6 routinely.

We both work in private industry and we both get home between 5:15 to 5:45. Dinner is usually around 6.

Dh works at two different locations for the same company, and has different hours at each. Two days a week he's home at 3:45, two days a week he's home at 5:30, and one day a week he works from home.

I work from home for an outside employer. Our "official" hours are 8-4:30, but tonight I worked until 9 and everyone had leftovers for dinner.

He does pick up and is home everyday by 6pm with kids in tow. I get home between 6:30 and 7pm. He takes oldest child to soccer practice every Wednesday. He prioritizes family but it comes at a cost. Men get much less understanding for putting family first than would a woman in the same position.

How old are you, OP? You sound quite young!

DH gets home on a normal night around 6:30. About 3 nights out of the week he gets home around 8. Friday nights he goes out for happy hour.

My kids and I usually have dinner together and then do activities. So the kids might have gymnastics from 6-7 and we'll get home around 7:30 with DH walking in the door around 8.

On the weekends, it's all daddy though. I sleep in and have quiet time. We do family dinners on Sat and Sun nights.

I work in consulting, but for very small agency. I get in early--7:30am, so I can leave around 5. Usually leave by 5:30 and home by 6. Thank god for short commute.

My husband tries to make it home by 6:00, but it's not unusual for him to get home later. I'd say he's home by 6 three out of five days per week. And "by 6:00," I mean around 6:15 or 6:30.

DH owns/runs a small law firm with a partner. He works from home, and stops working when the nanny is scheduled to leave and he makes dinner while watching the babies until I get home.

I work in the tech industry and generally get home by about 7pm.

Depends on what time you go into work, too. My DH goes in very early so that he can come home early to have dinner with us and spend time with the kids. Home by 5. Used to be home by 4.30, but his job is further out now. He's a consultant, btw.

You sound very sheltered. "The business world" encompasses vastly different jobs, each with different requirements.

A 9 to 7 job seems pretty normal to me, but I grew up in continental Europe, where children have dinner later than the afternoon hour of 5-6pm, so unless the children are toddlers, they can still have dinner with their parents.

1st job sales/financial analyst = 7 pm

2nd job consulting: away monday to thursday, 12 hours a day

3rd job industry finance: 6 - 7 pm

Count yourself lucky its not worse.

What time do you/your spouse get out of work? I'm a teacher, so my experience is different than those in the corporate or business world. My husband consulting-type work. He often doesn't get to leave work until 6:00/6:30 and it sucks. He never gets to have family dinner with the kids and me, he never gets to take them out to play before it gets dark, etc. Growing up, my father was there for all of that every day and I know realize how meaningful that was. Furthermore, I feel like I'm the only one of my friends whose husband doesn't get home by 6pm.
