Liberal Arts - I told her it really doesn't matter which one she chooses. She is there for an education not job training. Probably History.

Mine have changed their majors more times than I can remember.
My oldest majored in Political Science. He's a 1st LT in the Army. He's working on his MBA part-time.
My college senior is majoring in Special Education. She is getting her Masters in Speech Path. She will be teaching English in China for the next two years.
My college sophomore wants to be a nurse practitioner.
My college freshman is majoring in Criminal Justice and wants to be a Police Officer. He's also in Army National Guard.
My high schooler says he wants to be a Combat Medic.
Again, they have ALL changed majors several times.

DD is a freshman and has already changed her intended goal. I wouldn't be surprised if she does again. I think this means she is doing college right -- I was concerned she was too focused going in and wouldn;t open herself to other possibilities and a broader education.

If engineering is declared, this is not a 4 year plan. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Mine started with one thing, changed before freshman year even started, then changed again at the end of sophomore year, and is now pursuing a graduate degree we (and DC) never in a million years would have imagined when DC was 18. So as long as your DC isn't in a specialty program like engineering I'd let them use freshman year to take a range of classes and see what interests them.

70% of kids who enter college stating a particular major change that major before they graduate. College is a time to explore and learn new things, so don't worry if kids discover new fields that they never knew even existed.

What is your DC thinking of majoring in?
How do you think their interest in the subject was sparked?
