Our school didn't make a big deal about it but I read about it so asked at teacher conferences and found out my child met the cutoff and was being tested. There were a few parent nights about it. I think only kids selected are notified (in June I think).

my kid scored MAP-M 244, also 99% InView quantitative , but did poorly in CogAT quantitative (over 10 points below the accepted median), only got wait list, but sure will be in compacted at home school

OP at our HGC there also seemed to be flexibility for kids near the cutoff for compact math. Since your child scored so well on the other tests I bet it wont be an issue.

OP here. It's weird. Child's highest score on HGC test was quantitative and InView quantitative was 99%, plus teacher says he should be in compacted. But the score was slightly below last year's cut off for some reason.

It is hard to believe kids who were selected into highly gifted center can't handle compacted math. Any kid with normal learning ability can handle compacted math as long as he/she works hard.

OP again. The teacher said that the principal has the final say and that the school thinks child should be in compared math. My child is going to an HGC and I know that the HGC is supposed to accept the home school's decision but I am just not certain in this situation if the score is not high enough (which we don't know yet).

My son had a score well above the cutoff but I heard from our principal that MCPS cutoffs decide. But sounds like school has some leeway if class is held in the school. I would imagine if the class is held at another location and busing is involved maybe there is not so much leeway.

Note that some schools do not have enough kids for full class so they hold the compacted math class at a local middle school

OP here again. The compacted math assessments. There are five parts. The school finished in February.
My older child is in compacted math so I understand the process generally just wasn't sure if the school has the final word or the central office.

I'm not misunderstanding. The teacher told me my child's score. The teacher has finished the assessments and the school has made it's recommendations to mcps. The school recommended my child. But the score cut off last year was slightly higher than what my child got on the test.

Yes, school decides. There is a Central Office cut-off score on the assessment, which was not the same in year 1 and year two so it will probably not be the same this year --- that number has not yet been determined. But the school can still choose to put a child in if they are below that cut-off based on other factors. However, given that it is only March, I think you are misunderstanding that your school recommended your child. The teachers recommend children to be assessed and score whether they think child should be placed in class. However, the final decision will come after all other items are considered, with the assessment score playing a major part.

Does anyone know if the school recommendation is sufficient for getting into compacted math? I know that our school recommended my child be in compacted math next year but my child's score was a couple below last years cut off score. I think on a thread from last year someone said their child scored one below and still got in. Is this because the school's recommendation was sufficient?
