Indeed. DS has "fake" ASD.

Going to 4 schools in K-2 was just to set the stage for our over-diagnosis strategy on getting an IEP.

You're kidding me right? Do you actually know parents who want their kid to have an SN diagnosis? Every SN parent I know would give anything to have their kid be "normal."

DS had an excellent experience with implementing his IEP at Westland. The extra "resource" class to keep everyone on task and organized was extremely helpful. His teachers were respectful and encouraging.

Anyone know the specifics of the Westland issue? It seems extremely serious. Same principal?
With a few exceptions, Bethesda schools have a bad reputation for trying to get rid of special needs kids by not providing them IEPs.

Westland families seem to transfer out for special needs.

I don't know if things improved this year as a result of the complaint but in prior years, the school (including the Principal) was quite resistant to IEPs and often made things very difficult for students seeking accommodations.

It was more than just a complaint. it was a legal action and MCPS investigated, found it valid and was forced to take corrective action. I'd call that pretty severe.

Kid with 504 here. Our experience is that the school does not readily implement accommodations and there is at least one counselor who actively tries to remove accommodations and get it down to the smallest number possible.

They also take the approach that if the kid isn't failing, that means everything is fine.
