Did I write this? I actually think I wrote a similar post here about a month ago. And I decided to quit. I realized I was keeping my foot in a door that I no longer wanted to walk through.

I am now loving my time with the kids and I am looking for part-time work in a different field. Your career is not over if you leave this one job. You can transition to a different type of job that works better for everyone, including you. Good luck!

But once she stays home her career is over. That's what she is grappling with.

Dear God, OP, if your DH makes enough then quit your job tomorrow and take your kids to the zoo! Really, life is too short. Your kids will be grown and gone before you know it. If you can afford it, go live life. I'm incredibly envious, btw.

I work to keep my foot in the door (although it's FT but a low level job). For now, it works for me, but i"ll leave when it no longer does. I'm looking to start my own business. Hope to do that within the next few years.

I took a job a number of years ago because of the pay increase that was in my area of expertise but the work environment was terrible. I vowed never to do that again. If you don't like the job or the work environment, it isn't worth it for the money or to keep your foot in the door.

OP here. That was my original plan, to keep my foot in the door but it has been 5 years of this. I thought once the kids were in school full time, I would be able to work more but I actually feel stretched more with all the school events, school breaks, etc. I used up so many days for snow days that I have to put my kids in daycare spring camp next week. I would MUCH prefer to take them to the zoo, museums, etc. but I don't have enough PTO. Summer is right around the corner and again don't have much PTO. We have one vacation planned and need to find care for all other months. I am just afraid I will regret it if I quit and can't get back in the workforce.
I am 12:46, and, Wow, I acould have written exactly that.

Yes, why not just find a job that you find more satisfying? Or is the problem that you would only feel satisfied with a more demanding job? For me, if the choice was the low satisfaction job vs. not working at all, I'd probably stick with the job, but I know I would not enjoy being a SAHM.

why not start looking for a more fulfilling job then? sounds like you don't need the money so i would volunteer with a nonprofit who works for a cause you are passionate about to get my foot in the door.

Figure out what it is you want to do, whether it's stay at home, find another job, change fields...think about what it is you want to be doing daily.

DH earns more than enough to support our family. I traded my high demanding job for a very flexible job with low job satisfaction. I can't help but feel like my life is passing me by and I am wasting time at work. I know some people live to work and others work to live. I don't do either.
