Second Neal Stephenson and the Rook

I don't think the Divergent series is as good as Hunger games and didn't really like the Magicians. In both cases I liked the first and didn't finish the series.

Brandon Sanderson has some good long books too.

World War Z and The Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks. Very fast reading, very entertaining.

You've probably read the Vorkosigan Saga, but it's worth a read if you haven't. You can buy omnibus editions with 2-3 of the original titles combined.

I also really liked Elizabeth Moon's Herris Serrano books.

The Passage.

So so good.

Should mention -- these are kind of speculative fiction but really really well written. I loved Station Eleven too.

2nd this choice. Not familiar with the others, but you can bet I'm going to look into them too.

I haven't, I will check them out. Similar to Hunger Games in tone, right?

Not quite as well done in terms of plot, but more romance, which is fun.

The Martian by Andy Weir - LOVED it - Could NOT put it down. And I am a huge Station Eleven fan and enjoy Sci-Fi Fantasy.

Neil Gaiman's The Ocean at the End of the Lane and Neverwhere.

Divergent is similar to Hunger Games but not as deep or as well-written - though still engaging.

OP here. Yep, me too -- sadly I started reading them as they came out (in the 90s?!) and have re-read them, too! But thanks, that's the sort of book that's right up my alley.

I need some books to keep me entertained during two huge multi-stop flights.

I'd love any and all fiction recommendations, but I'm very fond of speculative fiction/sci-fi/fantasy. Last book I read was Station Eleven and I really dug it.

What have you read and enjoyed lately? Bonus points if you think it's engaging enough not to notice you're stuck in coach for multiple flights!
