This. Since when did above average became gifted?

Nobody said that. We don't need to rehash the definition every time it comes up. Can we just assume that people who say "my kid tested gifted" means my kid has an IQ that Hoagies defines as gifted or VHG? Many people whose kids are going to Deal have had one reason or another to have their kid's IQ tested. Lots of kids do CTY/EPGY and the like.

"Gifted" generally means a FSIQ of 130+ usually on the WISC.

Does it seem like everyone on here who asks about a school mentions that their child is "gifted?" Is it one person asking about different schools or are their really that many gifted kids?

Many, many kids at Deal -- probably half the class or more -- are a few years above grade level. We thought Deal was grade at pushing especially in math. We were less impressed by the differentiation in English. Overall, we thought it was a good experience for our (tested gifted) child.

If they get straights A's send them to private the following year. If not, stay.

OP: We were in 6th grade and taking 7th grade English and Math. So, smart gifted but not Einstein gifted. We are moving to the area and think we found a house near Deal. We had thought only private but thought Deal looked interesting. I am sending my older daughter to I think private for high school.

Define gifted: Working ahead of grade level (and thus would be in a G&T program in MoCo)? Or profoundly gifted, doing physics and calculus in elementary school?

As the parent of a gifted kid, I found Deal to be very good. She was doing work comparable to her friends who were going to Sidwell and GDS. I will add, however, that it depends on whether you have a gifted and motivated kid. Gifted alone may not make Deal a great fit as your child may not have to work particularly hard to do well. If they are interested, many of the teachers are great and there are many opportunities to shine. My kid thrived at Deal.

What do you think about Deal for a gifted child. Is there an honors program? Or is there anything else that makes it a good school? Trying to decide between Deal and a private school. Thx.
