The proper expression is don't shit where you sleep.

There's a guy at my office that I am attracted to and he seems chatty and friendly but not sure if I should pursue it or just let it go. He works in a different department/floor. I am not sure how to see if he is interested or should I even do anything because we work at the same company.

If you met a S.O. at work...how did that go?

Thanks.

I married a co-worker. I was 26 when we started dating. Not old enough to know better. But, he wasn't a boss or supervisor amd we worked in big office where lots of dating took place. Anyway, 20 years later and still going strong. Good luck, OP!

I wouldn't date anyone where I worked because as you personally have experienced, relationships can go South + when they do, they can get pretty messy.

If your job is important to you and you do not want to look for another place to work later on, I say forget it.

But if your job isn't that great, then sure, why not?? Give it a shot.

Just move really slow...Try to find out if he likes you first. It could get super awkward if you ask him out and he declines, yet you still see each other at work.

Dating someone in a different department is a fairly low risk way to date someone at work- go for it!
However, don't throw yourself at this man because you want to make sure he knows you're okay with dating someone in the same company. That's a good way to set yourself up for being used, and that's a little harder to get over.

Met my wife at work. Everyone was young and fun. Kept it a secret. When we got engaged, it was a surprise to everyone.

Go for it. From your description it doesn't seem like you work on the same projects .

Never date anyone you work with.

Single (well divorced) 41yo woman here.

There's a guy at my office that I am attracted to and he seems chatty and friendly but not sure if I should pursue it or just let it go. He works in a different department/floor. I am not sure how to see if he is interested or should I even do anything because we work at the same company.
