OP, if you get to a Wegmans at all, get the Wegmans brand Grandma's Pomodoro. 7 ingredients, no sugar, and much less expensive than other brands (especially if you buy the 2 x 45 oz jars family pack). I love Rao's Marinara, but just can't afford to have that be our regular sauce! The Wegmans is a pretty good substitute. A little thick, but I stir in a bit of the pasta water and it's perfect.

Yes, yes, yes! Make a big batch of it, and freeze it in portions. I add some finely chopped mushrooms to give it a "meaty" flavor (I add meat too, but I can use less meat if I have mushrooms; if you chop them tiny, you (your kids) can't tell that they are eating mushrooms.)

TJ's has one w/o sugar. Read the ingredient list. Rao's doesn't either. Also I believe Aldi's organic sauce doesn't have sugar on the ingredient list. Just read the label

You really don't have to pay that much. Rao's is very good, but others are fine too.

The cheapest jar of sauce with good clean ingredients, and less than 5-7 of them, is about 6.99. The cheaper ones use poor quality tomatoes so they load it up with sugar and they also contain crappy oils.

Rao's and Gina Risposa. But check each variety label because even in those brands one or two have sugar.

Does canned tomatoes have sugar in them? I make my own sp. sauce, I don't put sugar in.

Rao's= no sugar. It's not necessary

Sugar in needed because of the acidity of tomatoes.
I would think most jarred versions will have some, though I might be wrong.
You can always make it at home and omit the sugar in the recipe.

Why? Tomato sauces have small amounts of sugar, a tablespoon or so, for a reason.

What brands? FWIW, I shop at Safeway.
