My undergrad calls those "likely letters." They can't release their results yet, so they send these letters saying, basically "You're in but we can't really tell you that yet, wink wink." My undergrad doesn't offer merit aid, so I can't speak to that.

slightly OT, but DD yesterday received a card from GW saying she's in, and to expect a letter soon. What does this say (if anything) about her chances for merit aid? Do all accepted kids get this card? It asked her to set up a visit to the school, so that sounds fairly definite. She also received a letter from another, more selective school saying she's such a strong candidate that she's getting accepted two weeks before the regular acceptance notification date. What does all this mean?

If this is true, why are most of the students selected from majority AA/minority schools?

This GW Scholarship has been happening for years. It's nice for the 9 kids picked. Don't forget that kids who go to SWW can get 2 years of GW for free taking classes while still in high school. That seems great to me.

The lottery happens every year too, but yet it's posted. It's new students representing different schools throughout the city,I think it's news. What is not news is how many students from Wilson got accepted into Harvard!
I know a Caucasian student that received the scholarship.
