I've assembled a bunch of Billy bookcases. They're pretty easy, though the directions often leave something to be desired.

I haven't assembled a Malm.

Billys are great! I do like to use a power tool rather than the wimpy little Allen wrench device they provide. I also like a good pair of vise grips to move the shelf pegs around -- they work great for both pulling the pegs out and whacking them into place.

Malm bed rails can be a challenge. Also that bed is awful on your shins. I still bear scars.

The hardest part about the Billy bookcase is nailing the back panel on. And if you're comfortable with a hammer and small nails, you'll be fine. It's beginner IKEA

I've never assembled a Malm bed, but I have put together a dresser. I'd say anything with drawers is advanced beginner. It's not hard, but there are more steps.

And if there are any of those g*d d*mn weird locking bolts that IKEA loves to use, all bets are off. Or maybe that's just me

OP, obviously. What is the point of a question like this?

It was a rhetorical response to OPs question - before I added ideas on how to go about Ikea assembly, whereas your post was totally useless. But seriously lighten up - the Billy is one of Ikea's most famous and best selling item. There are whole websites devoted to Billy hacks. So yes, in fact MANY people have assembled Billy bookcases before. I wasn't implying that the OP had or hadn't.

You apparently forgot to put on your sense of humor this morning.

Billy is incredibly easy. The IKEA beds are a little more time-sucking but also not that bed. Billy you can do in 15 minutes.

Not all IKEA furniture is easy to assemble, but those are.

Yep. In fact, my 9 year old helped me assemble his Malm bed. Take your time.

I've assembled all kinds of IKEA furniture. The key is to sort the parts and identify everything, then follow the instructions very carefully.

Who hasn't assembled a Billy bookcase?

Ikea instructions are very easy to follow and are all pictures. Bookcase is easy, the bed you will probably need help from your 9 year old just holding piece in place since they are large and bulky.

First thing you do is sort all the parts into the categories the pictures show so you know what you are using (and make sure you aren't missing any). Pay attention to front and back of parts (usually common sense but not always). Use post it notes as a reminder (left/right, front back, etc.)

Just wondering if this is something a really poor assembler (me) could tackle. With help from my 9 year old.
