17:36, do you want a better math curriculum OR math workbooks? The 2 are mutually exclusive. But im guessing you don't have any teaching or curriculum development experience.

My biggest complaints are the overcrowding and the caps on acceleration. If there were smaller classes, teachers could differentiate. More help in the classroom would improve matters. Some schools focus only on the bottom and special needs, which is important, but they should have sufficient resources to meet both ends of the spectrum.

I like MCPS so far (kids in 3rd and 5th.)

Too many problems with overcrowding. Overwhelmed teachers who are too busy helping struggling kids to teach the other 25 kids in the class. I think it's hard for any parent to admit that their child might be in less than ideal circumstances, but sometimes one has to look at reality in the face in order to galvanize change.

1. We need workbooks for math, and a more exciting math curriculum (my child is in elementary school and already bored silly by the endless repetitive worksheets).
2. They don't recognize dyslexia, nor is anyone trained in well-tested techniques to teach dyslexic kids. Why?
But I have to emphasize what I like (sorry, OP): experienced teachers, good communicators for the most part, and a solid science curriculum.

OP, here. Yes, I am a cynic. I have come to the conclusion that MCPS is not about educating children, but about perpetuating the machine that is MCPS. MCPS has become to comfortable thinking it is the best school system around and that no parent is allowed to question it. Frankly, it is not the bees knees. It is an overly bureaucratic beast.

I agree that MCPS behaves this way and Starr was the worst of all. It didn't work out for him in the end so there is at least a sliver of hope.

I'm not sure what could be said that isn't being said everyday on every other thread.

I'm not happy with 2.0. Its a mess and I'm pissed that my youngest child is getting a far worse education than my older child received. I'm tired of empty talking points and PR spin trying to sell 2.0. I'm frustrated that so many parents have just given up and decided to teach their kids at home on their own.

Do you sincerely believe that nobody would put up posts about being happy with their child's MCPS elementary school unless they got paid for it? If so, maybe you should get out more.

For real, OP? All the threads on the MCPS forum are about UNhappiness - do you really resent one thread that enables those of us who are reasonably satisfied with our kids' education to say so? And are you really so paranoid (and frankly ignorant) to believe that anyone who thinks positively about their children's educational experience in Montgomery County must be an MCPS staffer.

Please, start your own website that is exclusively devoted to ranting against MCPS. The rest of us are pretty sick of hearing the same tired rants from you.
