I was really active. The PTA this year brought in Boosterton even though we are in a wealthy area. The school already has a large amount in the kitty.

I will no longer support my ES with my money.

Not quite. My school's parents are at the other end of the spectrum. Chain smoking, pajama bottom wearing, tatooed up to their necks and screaming at their kids.

Parents volunteer, but it seems like it is always the same 4 or 5 people who get chosen to do things, except for the larger events where every single parent is welcome to help.

Yes, they are very active. It is so motivating to see so many supportive parents. I will tell you that having a wonderful principal and active PTA who both support the staff makes all the difference. No one or 5 parents can do it all. It takes a village whether you are working or not. Think of the awesome message you send to your child and the other kids in the class by showing your support. In my opinion, these are easy things with big impacts.

Oh. our field trips are usually big draws, but otherwise? eh

Same here. The field trip chaperones have to be drawn at random since so many people volunteer. Huge list of library volunteers, etc.

3:22 here, Same experience, I wasn't "chosen" as a chaperone until the end of my second child's 2nd grade year.

Very active. There are volunteer opportunities every week. DH and I feel guilty because we both work full-time and can't volunteer without taking off of work. We have each gone once so far but DS always is talking about how he has the other moms in his class and wants us there, too. There is a very active PTA at our school.

In ES our PTA was on steriods. 6 figure fundraising Tons of volunteers. It really depends on the school. MS and HS have been more tames, but still fairly active.

Here's what you do:
You ask individual parents to do a specific task.
That usually works.

Sounds like our school. It's pathetic.

Our PTA is just flat out worthless this year.
