Our living room is Hawthorn Yellow and our dining room is Prescott Green - both Benjamin Moore.

Saw emerald green in Downton Abbey = gorgeous with emerald green silk chairs. Might be too bold for a smaller place but I'm definitely doing that next time around.

Thanks for the ideas. The yellow is my favorite color and it makes me quite happy so it is going to stay. It will be many years before we sell this house, so I'm going to paint it for our own enjoyment rather than re-sale right now, but I appreciate the input on that too.

Hadn't even considered wallpaper, especially the grass cloth idea. Navy would be a fun choice, too.

Cranberry is definitely dated. Yellow is too.

I actually think very bold colors are in. Bold gray, green, navy, cobalt.

Grass cloth wall paper would look great and go well with the pale yellow.

If you want a bigger overhaul, get rid of the pale yellow. That color is getting pretty dated now. It's never really out, but it was all the rage in the late 90s.

Wallpaper is very on trend. My dining room is the one place I would love to go for that--I think it's one room where you can go a little bolder. I see that a lot in House Beautiful.

OP here. Currently it's the bold cranberry red that has been so popular for years. I'm not opposed to keeping it that color, but wondering if that color is past its prime and can be replaced with something a bit more on-trend. Keep the suggestions coming.

I think a pretty pale green(with some gray in it- so it's a subdued/soft green-not minty) would compliment a pale yellow room really nicely. Check out Ben Moore's prescott green and hollingsworth green. It will enhance the wood tones in the room. Then do white window treatments- sheer linen panels would be pretty with the green walls and the dark furniture. Add a couple of pale yellow accents- could be a vase centered on your table, tape on the window treatments, etc. This will tie the rooms together.

I have BM Boothbay Gray in my dining room - looks great with my darker wood furniture.

That sounds like a nice idea if it can work with your current shade of yellow.

A darker shade may be Sherwin Williams Compatible Cream. It's a deep
golden color. We have it as an accent with Sherwin Williams Jersey Cream.

Small dining room is open to a pale yellow kitchen and great room. Furniture is dark mahogany with dark leather chairs. Lots of windows and light.

I'm thinking about a blue or blueish-gray to update from the ten year old paint color but need some suggestions if that would look good or other ideas.
