Totally okay to get one gift or no gift at all! The kids usually don't notice and the parents are too stressed out about making sure everyone else has a good time that they don't care

The etiquette is to graciously accept or decline the party.

A gift is "extra." You can bring something that the children can share, and in the card write something like, "We thought this might be something you'd enjoy together!" A board game, or beach paddle-game or something is a good idea. Even a hoola hoop + softball t-ball set. You know, whatever.

Or you can bring a gift for the child you know and not for the other.

Or two different gifts, one for each child.

It's all good!

This is what I do. I assume the hosts don't expect gifts for both.

Do you know how old the other sibling is?

We've only been to one joint party and it was a no gift party. Made life so much easier.

I would say one gift for the kid you know.

I guess people do different things. I did a gift for both kids.

We do a gift for the child we know or else a joint gift (game, for example).

One gift, just for the kid you know.

So if two sisters are sharing a birthday party and your kid only knows one of them (from school)...what kind of gift/gifts should you get? In the past, we've unknowingly gone to joint sibling parties but have gotten an invitation that only mentions one kid's birthday (so we didn't have a gift for the other kid), this invitation has both kids names on it.
