OP, there are a million reasons why people call and don't call. I think a major issue is that people try to play it cool and project the "I am so busy with friends and my life but yes I can spare some time" routine. I would send a casual text. "Hi, just want to say hello and see how you are doing".

I don't think one text appears desperate. People seem desperate when they send barrages of messages.
Thanks. Ok, final question. If I text him today (Friday) does it look like I am desperate because the weekend is right around the corner, or should I wait and text him next week?
Guys don't think that way about the weekend, typically, in my experience. It's the women who are more concerned about the nuances of schedule.

Do you know when he was supposed to be back in town? If that time has already passed and he's back I might text him, but I'd make a small mental note that he didn't reach out to me when he said he would.
He never told me when he was coming back so I'm not sure. I suppose I have nothing to lose (but my pride) if I reach out to him. The worst that will happen is he ignores my text or says no. I just don't want to come off as desperate and pathetic.
Oh, this could be nothing but it could be everything. Text him if you will just be waiting in suspense if you don't, but prepare yourself to not get the outcome you want.

I'm 40, and my girlfriends and I have been debating this for 25+ years. In all of those years and hundreds of incidences or not call back there was only ONE in which the guy was into her but got in a car accident, sustained a head injury and didn't call because he was in the hospital. In all of the rest: he's just not that into you.

Unless there was some emergency such as PP described, it means tepid interest. Even a person too busy to call, but afraid of losing your interest, would send a quick text or email if they didn't want you to get the wrong idea. Not doing that means they aren't too concerned about what conclusions you reach about their non-responsiveness.

If a parent fell gravely ill and he had to fly to be with them and lost his cell phone on the way to the airport so he didn't have your number, that would be a good enough excuse. If he just got busy and didn't reach out to you at all, he's not interested.

Is there ever a situation where he doesn't call, or takes forever to call you back, but he is actually into you? Or is this behavior an obvious sign of tepid interest?
