Have friends who send their kids now (mine is not old enough for K yet - his preschool is immersion and he's been there for 3 years) and don't like it at all. Not the teachers or the administration.

Which language immersion other than Bailey's in FFX County? Our local school is Timberlane too (which we are far from impressed with). Our son is also in a language immersion program currently.

if you are in immersion, you would have to choose to stay in immersion or go to AAP. There is no school that does both.

We chose to stay in immersion when our child got into AAP. We felt the immersion experience was better in the long run.

If you had grade-skipped, then your DC would be able to take even more high school classes. Poor kid, only taking 2 high school classes as a 7th grader.

If you do immersion, you cannot also do AAP magnet school (ie level IV), but you can still do level III at the immersion school. This makes sense since you can't be in two schools at once :-0

But, yes all FCPS kids get tested.

We turned down the level IV school for my DC to stay in immersion, and just did level III. As a 7th grader he was in two high school classes - Hnr Algebra and Language I. If he had left the immersion school he would have only been in Algebra. My DC ended up ahead of the level IV kids (and it kills some parents in my sub-division, who think I'm a freak for doing immersion, that my DS is "ahead" of their snowflakes. But, to each their own, I've got other kids who have their share of IEPs)

My child will be heading to kindergarten in FCPS in September - our local school is Timber Lane and we've applied to language immersion programs at two other schools.

Two questions:
1. If a child is in language immersion, can he/she not do AAP (if qualified/invited) later?
2. How is the NON-immersion language instruction at FSPC elementary schools - by middle school do they basically just know some vocab, or can they speak/read Spanish at least a little?
