OP, was there anything that preceded your mom saying this? Not that it justifies it, but seems like a lot of important context is probably being left out.

My mother told me I had ruined my life by marrying DH, who was then out of a job.

DH persuaded me not to cut her off, but I limited contact severely. Haven't seen her in two years, although we talk regularly.
