You might consider Melwood Recreation Center. I don't know much about it, but the prices seem to be lower.

I was thinking about an intensive reading camp for my almost 8yo son who has dyslexia, but we simply can't afford it. I can pay for really good tutoring twice a week for a lot less.

Going to Auburn's open house on March 11th... I can only afford half days

Definitely agree! The costs are outrageous- but obviously $600 for a full day or $400 for a half day are cheaper than others, so I was just trying to pass it along.

Personally, we decided to go through Camp JCC for camp- so around $400 a week and continue with private speech during the summer. We had originally thought we would do therapeutic camps, but the county ones did not work for my DS and the cost of others was too much.

Still...it's 3K, that's a lot of $ for many families.

No, just LEAP at U of MD for speech and that is 3-5 year olds and usually full with year round kids.

We skipped them due to cost.

OP, I agree, therapeutic camps' costs are absolutely crazy. We tried one a few years ago, ended up being w/o any vacation that summer, DS didn't see a grain of sand. Now we rely on ESY at schools that incorporates social skills into its daily curriculum and some of the camps through Fairfax County Parks and Recreation. They are a lot cheaper than Leaps and Bounds or LAB for that matter. Look into https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/ncs_tracers/up/ProgramListing.aspx?pDGID=2#3

Many of these camps charge $1000 a week! Does anyone know of any camps that integrate social skills or speech that are less expensive? Anyone have luck getting insurance to reimburse for the speech part of these camps?
