Thank you. Its good to know this stuff. We are original foreign as well as out of state, so the fewer differences the better sometimes when growing up in a new place, but not always.

we live in Bethesda and my son has long hair (like below shoulder length long). It's not common, but no one seemsm to care. I think there are two boys on his bus with longish hair (ie, like the longest in the pictures, or even almost to shoulder length) I think there are only a few long-haired boys at school. But my son has never been teased about it. Though in the beginning a lot of people asked why he has it long. He ignored them, and I guess they got bored of asking. I have no idea if the DCUM nasty types would say anything about it, but I really don't care, and I don't think I'll ever know.

Well I am a bit worried about the nut jobs I see popping up on this site actually being real, living parents I might encounter in Bethesda. Unless its just the one same loon who actually has no kids....

At DS's Bethesda school, there's a wide range. There are plenty of boys wearing the closely shaved look, but I'd say more than half go longer, across the range of the photos you posted (though no one's wearing pageboys). DS, second grade, is usually somewhere between #1 and #4, though it gets longer than that before it gets cut back to #1 to start over again.

In all kindness OP, if you're planning a move I would have thought you'd have other things to worry about.
DS has number 4 on that list and lots of boys in downtown Bethesda have far longer and messier hairstyles. No one cares!

Bethesda resident here with 9 and 11 yr old boys - tons of boys have hair like no 2 in the first link - I'd actually say that is more the norm than short hair.

OP here. Thanks - currently his hair is like 4 in the first link. We usually grow it a bit longer during the Summer - but wondered if he turned up with a complete mop in MD it might make him self-conscious.

I guess we'll see what's going on when we get there.

Could I help? We're across the river and my 8YO DD says that boys mostly have shorter hair. A few might have slightly longer. I'm in the school often and agree with her. Now the slightly older boys, 5th/6th, yes longer and a bit crazier. My DS has style # 5, too, but naturally curly and I think beautiful. Gets a light trim to keep it out of his eyes and a bit neater.

where in moco? in potomac/bethesda/chevy chase where we do most of our activities most of the boys have short hair but there is usually at least one boy on any given activity/class with longer, shoulder length hair.

Boys in elementary school in Montgomery County - do they mostly have very short hair, or do any of them wear their hair "long" - not Heavy Metal long, just longer than cropped short? We are relocating from another state where longer hair is the norm.
