I don't hate formica at all! It's functional and easy to care for.

We "upgraded" to granite and I hate the high maintenance aspect: we're supposed to clean it with windex and microfiber, such a pain in the a@@.

We had to replace our formica because it was peach and beige and we were re =doing the kitchen.

I think navy formica sounds cool.

Our kitchen had Formica when we bought the house. We did remodel this year and replaced it with Quartz-but that was after 9 years with the Formica and we remodeled because we needed new cabinets and slightly changed the layout. I do love my quartz in a way that I didnt love the formica, but I lived with it pretty happily for a long time. It held up extremely well.

I have the original formica in my 1955 kitchen. It is in great shape and is very easy to care for.

The edges are stainless steel and the counters on either side of the range also are stainless as is the back splash behind it. The rest of the backsplashes are the same formica as the counters.

I am fine with the formica and have been loath to remove as the stainless would have to go as well. The stainless is very high quality and absolutely anything can be put on it.

Unfortunately, I doubt any new buyer would be just fine with the formica.

I hate granite too. There are a lot of really nice quartz composites out there now. Check out Room & Board.

Unless you touch it you'd swear it was some kind of stone. It is beautiful. BTW, her husband is an electrician and a builder. They could afford whatever they wanted but she chose this formica.

I actually find that pretty gross. I don't mind formica. What I do mind is materials pretending to be something else. I love when formica is just unapologetically formica. Faux finishes look cheaper than cheap materials to me.

It depends on the kind. We had a small kitchen so granite was affordable. But, I did get sheet vinyl for my floor and love it as it is so easy to clean.

It's your house. Sounds like you have better places to put your renovation dollars than in a kitchen you like. Me, personally, I like the durability of granite or quartz, and having an undermount sink is actually the most important factor of all (can Formica have one?). But it's your kitchen and you like it - so keep it.

I love it for function. We used to own a vacation home with formica counters (new, not old). And they were so easy to maintain and clean. They looked great after 8 years of rentals!

I had bright white formica, perfect condition, in my second house and loved it ! I painted my kitchen cabinets a dark forest green with bright white trim and put white pulls on the doors and drawers. Not only did no one care about the no granite counter tops, I got compliments galore.

I'd rather have formica than granite. But actually I love wood better!

I'm not a granite fan. I find we break so many glasses and dishes on it. Of all the places I've lived, my favorite kitchen had corian. If I ever get to do my own kitchen someday, that's probably what I'll go with.

I don't hate it. I updated our kitchen slightly because we were several years away from a full redo, and after a few years I could no longer stand the 1980s seafoam green & peach colors. ~shudder~ It's a small kitchen and I toyed with the idea of a solid surface or granite counter, but it seemed stupid to spend the money. So I painted the cabinets white and went with a black formica. We've now had it for about 5 years (that full redo was even further away than I thought, LOL); it wears well. I am perfectly fine with it.

But I know what is considered formica counter tops is very different now a days. Basically, if you like the look of it, I wouldn't give it a second thought.

(I would be very careful with using trivets and clean up possible stains like coffee or wine right away, but that could be my perceptions based on the traditional formica.)

The house we moved into has a great kitchen. Good layout, lots of storage, nice appliances but it does have (new/in good condition) formica. Its a dark navy (sounds awkward but works wonderfully with the room) and I honestly think it wears really well. I know it *should* be on my list of things to upgrade but I just don't mind it. We've had granite at previous houses and I didn't hate it but I don't particularly yearn for it. However I realize I am in the extreme minority because I don't think any other house in my neighborhood has formica. Just curious if I had some online formica lovers...or at least not formica haters!
