I will do semi-gloss I think then on the trim. it will be easier to clean. I am doing a pretty pure white bc I think it goes with the darker gray in the 2 rooms better.

I am torn between Zurich white and first star. I want a really subtle gray, almost white, but I don't want it to be too gray or green or blue etc.

I may have to get a sample of each. anyone use either? I know in my home it will be different and it changes during the day as the light moves.

All white makes it looks like built in woodwork instead of just frames on the wall. It's fine. Give it a hint of gloss (pearl) so it looks more like wood. - designer

The all white bottom halfs look SO much better than the ones w colored boxes painted in between white panes. It looks much higher end. Definitely go all white from the chair rail down.

+1 Yes! I don't think you'll be happy with colored boxes.

trim all the same color. inside the boxes is the same color as the wall, e.g.:



It sounds like a lot of white for a large tall foyer even if the trim is a different white. I'd think about going with something other than white in general.

So Satin or semigloss trim? So inside the squares is wall technically I guess. Same color as the trim too?
so the top is flat and all of the bottom is one color in white?
Will sherwin w. Zurich white be a good contrast? I think it's a subtle gray white. The trim is pure white bc that's what other trim in the house already is.
I'd really like to keep the foyer a version of white with gray in the two rooms off it.

I have painted the formal living and dining room (above chair molding) a gray color. It's sherwin williams but similar to rever pewter I think.
The foyer is two story with thick molding all the way up the stairs. There are those molding rectangle boxes all along above 2 feet each. These molding boxes are along the foyer and dining room. There are probably 35 total. A lot....

My dilemma....I wanted to paint the foyer a white such as Zurich white and do the molding in pure white.
But then do I paint inside and around the boxes OR just do all the molding and lower half one color of white?

In the dining room, I think the whole lower bottom with the boxes should just be one color white. So all the boxes won't have gray in them. Which is more common or looks better?
But then do I do the foyer the same?
The foyer current has all the trim in bright white but the boxes are painted an off white. I. Don't really like it.
In the dining room, it's all white at the bottom and the trim isn't a different color.
I think one color on the bottom is better than all these boxes, in gray (dining) or contrasting white (foyer) but what do I know!!!

Any ideas????
