Probably not what you're looking for but the camping is inexpensive. Camp Henlopen State Park.

My friends rented a two bedroom condo in rehoboth last summer, july, for less than $1000/week. It's possible they may have had to drive to the beach, though.

We have been getting a mini week condo (2bdrm) with indoor pool and beach front in OC for about 5 years. It generally costs about $800-1000 depending which week we go. (The website may say the price is $700, but you have to add on a good bit for taxes and fees).

After three full days in the surf and sand (which my kids LOVE -- but didn't love when they were toddlers), we're tired of it. So, miniweek works for us.

A trip to the local beaches is actually pretty expensive. There is no "inexpensive" really when it comes to staying a week.

The least expensive option is to go to Ocean City on an off week. Even less expensive, stay somewhere outside Ocean City like the Francis Scott Key resort.

Many, many people will tell you their kids love the beach and spend hours there. That may or may not apply to your kids. And honestly, you and your kids don't really want to sit out on the beach in the blazing hot sun for hours on end. Another consideration, there were a couple weeks last year when you couldn't go in the water due to rip tides. Make sure there is a pool that is accessible.

I would also agree with this. My kids are now 9 and 7 and they have never been play at the beach for hours on end kinds of kids. So, wherever we go, there need to be other things to do besides the beach. Just something to consider before you book a full week. I would try to find a place that has other things to do. We rented a house once (on Cape Cod) and it had a big back, flat, fenced in backyard. The kids liked playing there more than the beach. They also liked a baseball field where they could just run around freely.

Or, any condos near there? Fairly short drive to OC beaches and attractions.

NJ is more expensive generally.

Have you thought about just taking the ferry and going to Cape May or Wildwood Crest in NJ.

Check out Lewes, DE or Bear Trap Dunes.

Try someplace like Slaughter Beach on the bay. There's not much there, but there are beachfront houses for rent sometimes. It's about 20 mins from Rehoboth.

+1, the sea colony tennis community is significantly cheaper and still an easy walk to the beach. There are shuttles too.
