I was also going to recommend Boy Scouts. Definitely has helped my DS.

We did the PEERS social skills group with Dr. David Black about a year ago. It was a fabulous program and Dr. Black who runs the parent group is brilliant with ASD. DS had a slow start to the group, but once he started using the skills in the group and doing the homework (practicing outside the group) I began to notice a change in him. His teachers and my in-laws when visiting over the holidays said they were amazed at how more conversational and social he had become. He used to avoid everyone when family was visiting. Wouldn't even eat meals with extended family. Over the holidays he not only sat with us through the meal, he had a conversation with his grandparents! I credit the PEERS group.

Improving Outcomes. They run several groups with varying ages all are single gender. Some are on Sat and others are evenings during the week. The youngest I know has been age 4-6. DC started in 4th grade. Middle and HS groups are there too.

and jssa has social skills groups but we've never been able to get in as they are always full.

the treatment and learning centers are setting up some new groups now and may be worth a call. this is the practice near the katherine thomas school and has a great reputation.

sometimes the groups are very small (2 kids, dyads) so if you can find one family that has a child about the same age you can try to see if one of their therapists will work with you.

also, depending on your child's needs, some social skills groups may be too basic. you may want to look at social thinking groups.

We've done social skills groups at Alvord Baker and we've been really pleased with them. We've also had good luck with them for individual therapy for our kids.

What are some of the best social skills groups out there for boys? My son is 8-years-old, has ADHD, behavioral issues, is emotionally immature and has major issues socializing appropriately with his peers. I am looking for social skills groups in Montgomery County, MD. Has anyone actually seen results after joining a particular group? Thank you!
