G may not have "meant to" have said something racist, but her comments certainly illuminate what she was thinking in an unfiltered way.

I've had locs for over 10 years and no one has ever thought I was a weed head. I think that notion is outdated if you live within a 100 mile radius of a diverse city.

I disagree. Dreadlocks are most commonly associated with Rastafarian culture and black people. Sure, some white folks have dreads, I even work with one, but its just not that common. Dreds (or locs as Zendaya calls them) are also not nearly as closely related to hippies as they are to black Rastafarians and Bob Marley fans. Now, if she had said "makes me think of the Grateful Dead, patchouli and ankle bracelets" it would have been okay but, she didn't.

There is a STRONG weed culture for Rastafarians.

There's a STRONG alcohol culture for Irish, but you would never hear someone say of a celebrity with straight red hair "I think she smells of booze."

But that's not even her real hair. Those are "weave dreads". Yeah, the comment was not well thought out, but it's just a hairstyle she chose for the time.

Don't know her, but she is beautiful. And love that she stood up to that comment about her hair. Good for her.

I loved her statement. She could have said some mean spirited things in response (and I wouldn't blame her if she did) but she handled it in a very classy manner. Giuliani should be very embarrassed.

Impressive and refined way to stand up for what is right. I am very, very impressed with this girl's (she is 18 so still really a girl IMO) statement which you can read at the end of the article. She is both well spoken and yet clearly offended and rightly so. My DD (11) loves her from TV and its refreshing to see that a Disney-esque televison personality and popstar is actually to be admired. Finally, a role model worthy of my DD's admiration!

My DD is blonde and blue-eyed and I have pointed out to her stereo types on these tweeny-bopper TV shows many times: from the all too common and long-standing racists ones to the less discussed "pretty blonde girl" always cast as the dumb girl or the mean-girl. I love that a female celebrity from one of these shows (shows that all to often perpetuate these stereotypes) has stepped up to tear a nasty stereotype down!
