Can someone take online EPF Pass/Fail online in Grade 8 (rising 9th grader) (May 1 - Jun 21, 2018) and then take, say, Research Stat 1/Ancient Civ, at TJ (beginning June 25, 2018)? Is there an FCPS/TJ policy that prevents taking two courses over the same summer?

Every student in Virginia is required to take the personal finance class. This is a super simple class aimed mostly at students who will not go to college.

Oddly, Fairfax County allows AP Micro/Macro to satisfy the requirement. If you have a strong student, in FCPS, don't bother with the Economics and Personal Finance class, just take the AP classes. In Alexandria, the AP courses do
not satisfy the requirement and students have to waste a period on a general ed class.

FCCPS; my son took it over 2 summers and got letter grades.

Easy A if they take it in school. Pass/fail if taken out of school so not a part of their GPA. It is very easy to pass. As mentioned, a D is considered passing.

DD sometimes googled the answer if she couldn't remember what they were asking - I believe the part she had trouble with was monetary policy and some kind of federal insurance. She would have received an A if she took it in school.

Also, some of the questions are poorly written.

I have this same question. I'm debating whether to have my dc take it over the summer as pass/fail because if it's an easy A, then maybe dc should take it during the year for a grade.

In the self paced option, is it not a big deal if the student is out of town for a week and has to double up on coursework for a bit?

There are only two grades -- pass or fail. It is incredibly difficult to fail something since even a D is passing. I cannot imagine a student who actually makes an attempt to do the work being able to fail this course.

I don't know about retakes. That would be a good question to call and ask the guidance office at your child's future high school, I think.

As for pacing, the course is entire self-paced as long as the student submits everything by the ending date. They can spend as long or as short a time as they need on each lesson to make sure they understand it before moving on. They won't really need to 'catch up' as long as they make sure they're on track to finish everything by the deadline. I don't think pace can be much of a problem given the format of the class.

Can they retake the elective?
will transcript reflect that this paper is retaken and any reason why they want to retake the class?

what if the online class was at a faster pace and student had trouble catching up?
Will retake be allowed in this case?

If you're in a different Virginia district with a requirement by the same name, no advice, sorry. I'm only familiar with the FCPS class and requirements.

My rising 9th grader will be taking it over the summer, so I have no direct experience yet but those I've talked to said it was easy enough.

It is graded pass-fail. There is no paper that I'm aware of, just a bunch of online modules and online exams.

It's 100% online and can be done at the student's own pace as long as they're done with everything by the end date.

I think the class will look fine on a transcript even though it's pass-fail.

For summer there are two choices of date ranges, and each has an associated registration window.
Dates:
Monday, May 4 – Thursday, July 2 (Session 1)
Monday, July 6 – Tuesday August 4 (Session 2)

Registration:
Registration for FCPS students is online.

Registration for Session 1 begins on Monday, March 16, 2015, and ends on Wednesday, April 15, 2015.

Registration for Session 2 begins on Monday, March 16, 2015 and ends Monday, June 22, 2015.

Parents/Legal guardians of FCPS students must create an account at https://aceclasses.fcps.edu in order to preregister a student online. Once the counselor approves the course selection, the parent/legal guardian will receive a registration confirmation via email.
Students are not officially registered until the confirmation email is received. Payment must be submitted at the time of registration using MasterCard or VISA credit card.

The cost is as follows -
Tuition:
Full - $100.00
Reduced Lunch - $50.00
Free Lunch - $10.00

Is it advisable for a rising ninth grader to take the Economics and personal finance elective in summer (before starting high school).
Is it a hard subject?
Is the paper graded as A, B C, D etc or is it just pass or fail grade?
