I like the Jules Verne suggestions. I've never read them. She's a much better reader than I ever was.

Lots of good books here but not many that are over an 11-year-old's reading level. Dickens was a good suggestion--I would start with A Tale of Two Cities. Or what about The Scarlet Pimpernel (not by Dickens, obv)?

Agatha Christy, Dorothy Sayer.

My DS really latched on to anything by Michael Crichton.

Assume she's run through the Narnia books.

She's also read Madeline L'Engle books. She loves Dragon books. She's read all the Jessica Day George books too. We tried Jane Austen but the writing style was confusing for her. She had trouble understanding who Miss Dashwood was for example.

Jules Verne, some Dickens (David Copperfield, Oliver Twist). Maybe Dumas? I think I was about that age when I read The Three Musketeers. J.F. Cooper is good too. My 8-year old just finished The Time Machine and loved it. I loved "adventure" books at that age, and to my delight, so does my DD.

She's read Anne of Green Gables/Little Women. I was thinking of introducing her to Edgar Allen Poe and George Orwell. Keep the suggestions coming...

Little Women is still one of my favorite books.

I also like Anne of Green Gables and The Secret Garden.

I would consider some Newberry winners because she may quickly grow out do some very good books. A few that come to mind:

1. Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry

2. Caddie Woodlawn

3. Number the Stars

4. The Giver

5. The Witch of Blackbird Pond

6. Sounder

My 11 year old reads/comprehends books that are way above her grade level. Emotionally she's still a kid though. What books do you recommend?

She's read LOTR, HP, Percy Jackson, Farenheit 451, Grimm Fairy Tales, Maze Runner, Space Odyssey (entire series)..She's read a few classics but not many. Thought it would be a good time.
