For the Oyster people: I was at the open house but forgot to ask a follow up question - How is it that a large chunk of Oyster is OOB when it is so hard to get in OOB? [I forgot the OOB number know but remember it was high, like 48% or something] Are most of the OOB getting in by being in the Spanish dominant PK4 lottery? Or is it the older grades are more OOB but younger grades are not?

I'm a current IB Oyster parent who has another child that will attend next year. Oyster has not yet surveyed current parents about younger siblings, so how would the "registrar" know anything about available spots for PK? That being said, if Oyster is your first choice, then you should apply. You should also list it as your first choice (if you really want your child to attend), because otherwise, your chances of getting in will become even slimmer.

I was there yesterday as an IB parent. When we were touring the building, some OOB parents were casually asking the guides about the odds of getting into PK4. The registrar (sorry I don't recall her name!) didn't give an exact number, but said the odds were better this year, because they don't have many siblings coming in. I think it's 60% of the spots (the total spots should be listed when you apply).

True! We live IB (Eng.), and our son was never called off the PK waitlist--with a single digit WL number. We had to wait until K.

Oyster doesn't have PK3. And PK4 only chance for OOB is if you are Spanish-dominant--the English-dominant lottery can't even accommodate all the IB families.
