I would imagine food stains, rayons and more! But you can always get them slipcovered and wash the covers. There's a bunch of shops that do those for sofa, so maybe they do that for dining chairs as well.

Yep! We have these type of chairs. I reupholstered myself after we reached the post-marker stage. Went to G Street fabrics, got 3 yards of swank fabric and a staple gun for $60. Did it myself in 1 hour, looks great.

We have four upholstered parsons chairs (skirted to the floor) in our kitchen. They have held up extremely well, but we had the fabric scotch guarded before ever using them.

I used scotch guard on mine, and everything wipes off with a damp towel and a little dish washing liquid.

We have Pottery Barn upholstered chairs in Everyday Suede fabric. They are very durable and easy to clean.

I have an 18 month old and a 4 yr old. I would like to get dark brown wood chairs but I like the ones that are cushy (upholstered). Is this a mistake waiting to happen? Is there any fabric ones that are easier to clean? We don't really like the leather look and definitely looking at fabric. Also what about the chairs that are only partially upholstered (just part where you sit).
