Started this year fod the same reason. 11yo did is 5'5" and 110 lbs so I couldn't claim a guidelines based reason.

10 in an emergency, regularly at 12. At times she still prefers to sit in the back seat.

9 for occasional rides, 10-11 on a consistent basis.

My 6 year old rides shotgun on the way to school every morning, its like 20 minutes driving through DC. Pretty hard to get in a serious accident when your only going 25 mph the whole way. He hates to sit in the back and the only time he does is when me and Dh are both in the front.

11. Average size boy. I just don't live my life by "what ifs". Of course he wears a seat belt.

He could be killed crossing the street on his bike, playing sports, surfing, choking on a fish bone, ... We take reasonable precautions and let the rest go.

My DC is asking and I say DC does not yet meet the criteria. Feel bad as a number of friends are sitting in front seat, but they are taller and bigger than him. Makes it doubly hard for him, but can't risk it.

The front passenger seat in any vehicle is the most dangerous seat. Kids should be in back, belted. Even our teenagers go in the back. I know because I was in the passenger seat when a moron was texting while running a red light and T-boned our car. I "died" twice on the operating table but will never be normal again. The driver of our car received only a deep scratch.

I let my 11-year old sit in the front on special occasions. I figure by the time he is 12 he can sit there full-time

I know that I am in the minority, but I have let my kids sit in the front seat since they were six. They only sit up there when we are carpooling (my car seats 5) and always use a booster seat, but I really have no issues with it. My car is a 2009, so the air bag disables automatically when a child is in the front seat.

You are not being unreasonable. I will not let my DD10 who is about 5 feet tall ride up front on a routine basis. Even though she meets height criteria, she is more likely to be injured severly in the front seat during an accident. Why take the chance? If we had a space crunch, I'd consider it for short rides.
