Sounds like boar taint, or simple, good old rot. A pork loin should smell like pork.

Is it possible you're getting a migraine or your period? I smell all my kinds of weird things getti both (and have thrown out lots of food because of it)

Boar taint? I'd never heard of it until a few weeks ago when a friend mentioned it.

Hush, city girl. Pigs are actually very clean. They stink but they're very particular about their habitat. They tend to poop in the same spot and they never root in their poop.

(rolls eyes) Pulp Fiction quote, sweetie.

A dog eats its own shit. Is a dog a filthy animal?

I've bought meat before the sell-by date and had it be rotten. Sometimes I think the refrigerator cases are not reliable or the meat was left sitting out by the staff. Anyway, it's bad meat. If you complain to the store, they will likely give you a refund.

I got a 1.5 lb pork loin from Safeway this morning. It's not past the fresh date. I rinsed/patted it dry before cutting and it smelled just fine. I cut it into 1/2 in cubes and browned it. As it was cooking, an overwhelming smell of feces rolls out of the pot. It smells like a pig pen (having grown up on a farm, I know exactly what that smells like). I thought it might cook off but it hasn't - even DH can smell it. Any idea why? No way I'm putting that in my stew.
