I really like the Who was series of books but they are at a 3rd grade reading level so that may not work

Have you thought about doing one of those Lego figures and a couple dollar coins? Kids are fascinated by dollar coins because they never see them.

I have done National Geographic Kids books at $3.99 a piece before. This year I just did lemon clocks, a science experiment like potato clocks.

I got them for $3 each on clearance at Scientifics Online. But I think I wiped out their supply.

Here it is on Fat Brain Toys.

We would love a new action figure, matchbox or hot wheels cars, disney plane or how to train a dragon toy, swim toys, anything sports related, a tee shirt, etc. Books are always welcome but at that age there is such a range of reading and some kids need basic and some kids need higher levels. No more bubbles, crayons or other basic junk. Things like the grow in animals are fun. Or, nice cup like the disney ones with straws in your kids favorite character.

How about one of those puzzle books that you use a pen to reveal the answer.. like this (but not this- there are others for the younger crowd and you can buy this for less locally rather than amazon)

We usually just purchased a gift card to a local frozen yogurt place, smoothie shop, etc. in the amount for one small item.

We did Mr. Men books one year. Those with the gold spine might also be fun. For younger kid this year we did bathtub paints.

How about an iced cookie from one of the farmer market vendors/bakery. Put it in a clear plastic bag that you can get from Michaels, tie some ribbon around it and be done.

How about slinkies or mini rubix cubes?

We're having DC's 6th birthday party at a bounce house that gives out those icky bags of plastic crap. I'd like to do something else instead - thinking of an activity book and pencil, or early reader book or something, rather than a bag of trinkets. I'd like to keep it at $5/kid. The only activity books on amazon were either for readers or sort of easy connect-the-dot ones. Anyone have good suggestions? Thanks!
