Need more. Is this flight on an earlier or later date? Did the family rebook for themselves in first or coach?
How many days is the trip? Five?
I'd cover the cost. It's a free trip, free accommodations, free food and skiing passes and rental are darn expensive.

^^ I meant I've changed flight arrangement for myself and family (when it was just us), I wouldn't change flight reservations if someone outside the family were flying with us.

Why would they put you in that awkward situation? I would ask if they can put him in a taxi so he could fly back alone on the original flight. I've changed flight arrangements for myself and family, but I wouldn't expect someone else to pay $1,000 more then then had originally planned.

I'm not sure why they want to change the flights, but the change expenses could arguably fall under the category, "the rest".

A hotel will not allow a 16 year old to check in, even if you pay for it.

Why are they changing flights? If its to take a later flight, they should put him on the earlier one. If it were me I would call the parents to figure out whats going on.

Let him fly back alone. I wouldn't pay that much for myself. You could put him up in a hotel overnight for way less than that.

If I agreed to one price, I would not be ok with a sudden almost doubling of the price. I'd say, no, sorry. Sounds like you already booked, can't your son just fly back alone?

Hi have a high school son who is 16 and has been invited to go skiing out west with friends and his friends family. They said all we had to do is pay for his air and they would take care of the rest. It was about $600 but then yesterday she calls me that for the return flight they are changing it and there is only first class available which is $1040 one way! On top of the change fee. I am upset about it but not sure how to handle. We can afford it but I don't even fly first class! How would you handle this.
