This is not a life-or-death situation. It's an 8 year old walking home from school in broad daylight at 9:15 AM. Sheesh. Do you expect that a school has posted guards at every entrance? The child should be scolded for leaving the school building without permission, and the administrators need to investigate the alleged bullying incident.

This is why I think re-districting needs to occur in Alexandria. It would help balance each school and outspoken parents would drive overall improvement.

At times though I think even the upper middle class is lulled into complacency in our public schools. Activism requires strength and strength is in numbers.

Really glad this ended well with the help of that benefactor. Thank you, whoever it was.

I would be disinclined to help someone who went whining to the news if I were in a position of authority. Are you kidding me?


Maybe they were disinclined to help the family in the first place, which led the parents to notify the media.

Perhaps the news descended upon them, rather than than they ran too it. Maybe the Good Samaritan felt it newsworthy? The police were involved. Police cars at schools often attracts talk and anyone could have called the local news.

Transparency isn't a bad thing, often moving issues along with daylight.
