Bring him the fish. Stop by after 6 and just have the fish with you. If he doesn't want it back then I would just leave it on his porch and leave.

Definitely this. Do it right before someone usually gets home (assume if your kids are school together you know when that might be).

Agree. Drop a note off that says that you are worried about the fish and not sure how to clean the tank. Say you were not prepared to care for the fish this long and if he doesn't call (include your number) or stop by before Sunday (hence 3 weeks from when he dropped the fish off), you'll make arrangements with a pet store to drop the fish, tank and supplies with them.

Leave a note in his mailbox.

OP here. His son is the same age as my daughter (4). We have run into them at the grocery store. We used to see each other at the community playground. I don't remember their last name. This situation is completely laughable, but I am also unsure of what to do about the fish. Should I pick up tank cleaning supplies?

I think you inherited a fish. He's not a neighbor if he lives a mile away. Can you look up his phone number? Do you have an email for him? How did you otherwise consummate the fish sitting deal if you have no contact info?

OP here. Yes, it's weird. It's just a silly fish. But I don't want it to die. I will feel even weirder standing at his door at 6PM with three little kids asking when he is going to pick up his fish. I hope he's home.

Two Sundays ago, a neighbor asked whether we would babysit his fish. He was going on vacation with his family, and their regular sitter just canceled. He said he would be back in a week. It's now Tuesday and he hasn't been back to pick up his fish. I had to go buy more fish food. It's not a big deal as the fish is extremely low maintenance. But I am wondering whether his tank should be cleaned. I don't have the supplies to do that.

Said neighbor lives about a mile away. We (me + three kids) get home from work/school/daycare at 6PM. Should I drive to his house and ask when he's coming by for the fish? I don't have his phone number.
