Don't forget Star Wars. That was EPIC. I watched it at a drive through when it came out.

DD unfortunately remembers Mulan and Mulan II

- we thought it would show her a strong, powerful, smart and independant girl who can do all the things men can.

While it worked to a degree (DD loves karate), it also gave her nightmares about war. These were followed by questions like: what if a war comes here? What will we do?

Worse still, half of her relatives are German, and she is beginning to become aware of history (how are we going to tackle those awkward questions?!?).

Look at what TNT, TBS, FX etc constantly have in thier rotation. In addition to the ones pp listed, I'd include the X-Men, Batman and Fast & Furious movies. And of course Frozen. Outside of the big franchise movies, I think 21 Jump Street, Pitch Perfect, Easy A, Fault in our Stars will be considered a classic for that age group.

Interesting question. I think that we may remember more because we didn't have as many to choose from. Our kids are inundated with new kids movies every month. Not to mention that the trailers are available months and months before the movies even come out. There are even quite a few teen movies regularly as well. Fault in Our Stars might be a memorable one. Perks of Being a Wallflower.

I loved all the movies that the OP mentioned plus, Back to the Future, Who's that Girl?, Satisfaction, Dirty Dancing, Heathers, Gleaming the Cube. I watched some really lame ones over and over again with my sister.

I suspect it will be the franchises that are big. The hunger games, twilight, superheroes, etc.

FWIW I'm guessing I'm about 10 years older than your DC, and consider movies like Mean Girls, The Notebook, Superbad, Harry Potter, and Pirates of the Carribbean to be "my" movies.

Also, movies don't disappear. I have really fond memories of all the movies you listed even though they mostly came out before I was born. I think that's actually part of why "movies about young adults for young adults" seem to pale in comparison these days, nothing could ever top those classics!

I was born in the first half of the 70's and my child is about the age I was when I watched the movies that I think of as iconic movies of my generation. The movies that you can quote & everyone knows, not necessarily the best movies but the movies we will always remember. Movies for young adults about young adults. The Breakfast Club, Stand By Me, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Top Gun, Footloose, 16 Candles, St. Elmos Fire......


What movies will be the ones our kids will remember? From 2005 utnil now. I'm not sure what my parents thought of the movies I loved, but I just don't see anything that compares for my DC.
