Started with 3 natural cycles. First cycle had a chemical pregnancy. After 3 natural cycle IUIs moved on to 4 clomid IUI cycles. Had one miscarriage at 12 weeks. No success. After that SG ran every type of test and found there was nothing wrong with me. Moved on to IVF. First cycle had a miscarriage at 12 weeks. Second IVF cycle resulted in the most amazing love story. We were blessed with twin boys. They are happy, healthy little love bugs. We used frozen donor sperm. Switched donors between rounds 3&4 of clomid cycle.

When we started this journey I thought we would be pregnant the first time. Took a lot of soul searching throughout this process. Our successful conception took two years. When I feed the boys, hold them and kiss all over them, I don't even think about how difficult the whole process was. We can't wait to expand our family! My wife and I are truly blessed. Single using frozen sperm. Started at 39 doing natural. Had two miscarriages. Then did 2 clomid/injectibles and had two chemical pregnancies and then one cycle with nothing. Moving on to IVF (now 40).
My advice is to get the cheap Wondfro strips from Amazon and really get to know when you ovulate- once the strips started to get darker I would test every few hours and when the lines matched I would double check with the OPK to see if I got the smilely face. My success with my natural cycles was when I ovulated in the morning/early afternoon and then had the IUI done around the same time the next day.

No actually it is because an IUI puts the best sperm inside the uterus whereas fresh sperm has to swim through the cervix. Many guys don't make it past that point.

No I mean IUI with Frozen vs. IUI with washed fresh sperm. Difference in better motility in fresh ( better swimmers)

The recommendation is not to do more than 6. It's likely a waste of money beyond that. Good luck to you!!

starting our 3rd natural cycle with frozen. DW (the one trying) is 34. We're not planning to move on to IVF and I am very nervous about things that increase the chance of multiples, so there might be a few more things we can do (monitoring? progesterone? feel free to suggest others) but not that many options other than to keep trying. The frustrating thing is even with OPKs to guide you, you only get one try a month and it's hard to know if you used it at precisely the right time.

I was 38, got pregnant on the 2nd clomid IUI (monitoring, trigger shot, frozen sperm, 2 insems each time). They recommended clomid because of my age. The RE suggested 4 iuis, and if I didn't get pregnant considering moving to IVF.

We did 6 IUIs using frozen, donor sperm. Got pregnant on the 6th.

Did 3 with only monitoring and trigger shot and 3 with clomid, monitoring, and trigger shot. Timing is really important and really hard with donor sperm - that's basically what I learned. We got lucky when we did an IUI less than 20 hours after a trigger on the 6th cycle (rather than the standard 36-40 hours).

I read on the blog HelloBee (and from what I can remember), that a couple took 3 IUI for the first kid. Then the other partner tried to carry the 2nd kid and it took MANY, MANY tries. So they went back to the first partner and it took 3 or 4 tries for her.

I was about to ask the same thanks for posting the question. We are using frozen donor sperm.

So if there is no known fertility issues, I was wondering at what point do you move on from natural cycle to Clomid or any other kind of meds? I read some folks did like 13 natural cycle... sounds scary....

We did 10 (3 natural cycle, 4 clomid, 3 injectables). The 7th IUI resulted in an early miscarriage. We moved on to IVF and were successful on the first try.
