I often make shredded carrot salad. There is nothing.. As in Absolutely, positively, solidly, nothing special about it. It is shredded carrots with fresh chopped herbs, salt, pepper, olive oil and lemon.
Sometimes I get crazy add add something like cumin or chopped almonds/pistachios, but really that's it.
Every.single. time. I make it for a group, I get raves. I always feel like "c'mon folks, it's chopped carrots. The hostess made some 469 ingredient, sourced special spices, 4 day process chicken extravaganza which was amazing, and you want the recipe for carrots?
I'm not sure if it's a function that people only know whole carrots, cooked carrots, and baby carrots with dip, but I'm always confused by this.
Of course I never give out the recipe because now it's my secret dish.
I know everyone has one - a recipe non Recipe that makes them look magical. My best pal makes a rice salad that really comes down to rice, frozen peas, and dill that is her "dish" .( It truly is an amazing salad though.)
