My daughter picked up from a schoolmate that "gnarly" means cool. She's four and calls everything gnarly.

Do kids still do that?

Oh God---it's not just kids!! I work with several adults (OK, young adults, but still) who can't utter a sentence without the word "like" in it!!!

People in their 30s, too. I hate it. And I know I do it, too.

And its close cousin: "And then I go XXXX, and then she goes XXXXX, and I'm like WTF, and so I go yadda yadda, but then she goes. . ."

I have sort of assimilated all this into background noise. The two I have heard most recently that have jarred me are "hashtag" and spelling out what back in the day were AIM abbreviations. "Oh, hashtag lame!" "Oh em gee!"

I had to laugh. I don't let my kids say "oh my God" so my 9 yo will say "oh em gee" and tell me the "G" stands for gosh!

We just moved from DC to Chicago. Both kids have picked up "irregardless" which means the same as "regardless". Drive me up a wall.

My 8 year old is very into saying, "technically." About everything.

Well, technically not everything. But you get it.
