Please shoot me if I still feel the need to monitor my kids when they're in college.

Me either. DC got straight As last semester. I actually don't care if DC goes to class if the grades are there (although I am pretty sure dc does go to class) . Plus the lectures are available online so you don't really need to go to every class.

+1. I'm a college professor. I don't care if the kids are in class or not. Your grades reflect your work. If you don't need my lectures to pass the class, good for you. For my higher level classes where class discussion is a part of the course if you don't show up, you don't get the class discussion grade which in turn reflects your final grade. This is all spelled out on the syllabus given to students on the first day of class.

Trying to foster independence, not sure if this is a good idea or not.

I saw this on the news last night. I can see the pros and cons.

It seems silly for parents of 18+ year olds to feel that their college kids need to still be accountable to mommy and daddy to show up for class. If college kids haven't figured out how to be self motivated, I worry about their maturity level and professionalism in the work place (ok, maybe for freshmen transitioning from their parents, but sophmores + ....no more excuses).

So grateful this wasn't around when I was in college in the early 90s---I would have been hosed! Glad Facebook wasn't around either---would not want evidence of college antics to surface!

Pay someone to bring the phone to class.
Get a 2nd phone for Instagram snapchat etc when your phone is in class.

Problem solved.
