We told them when we bought it (floor model) that we needed it to come apart because the door was very narrow. It was no problem. (I wasn't home when it was delivered so I'm not sure what came off but it was fine.)
Most futon frames also come apart.
I second the American Leather sleeper sofa. We have one and I disassembled it to move it out of our basement. The one we have is also a comfortable sleeper sofa--no bar in the center. It is memory foam panels that make up the bed. Our guests love it and can't get over how comfortable it is. We bought it in Old Town at a store we found through American Leather's website.
If you just need a bed, the Corduroy beanbags that convert into a bed are supper comfortable and a much more casual option.
